Machine Guarding & Fabrication

One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks.

They can be fixed, interlocked, adjustable, or self-adjusting. Devices – these limit or prevent access to the hazardous area. These can be presence-sensing devices, pullback or restraint straps, safety trip controls, two-hand controls, or gates.

There are four general types of guards:

  • Fixed.
  • Interlocked.
  • Adjustable.
  • Self-adjusting.
